Training at Laurel’s house

The SUN was finally shining and it turned out to be a beautiful day to train dogs. Training was at Laurel's and there were lots of dogs.  The best time was watching Chico playing. (see slideshow). Brita was full of herself so we decided to video tape her.. enjoy the show!   Oh... yes..  the trees were beautiful and we couldn't miss taking pictures of them.

Chico really had fun running around the yard!

In this video we were trying to have get on the toy truck... it was fun!

Training (Wayne Stephens-helper)

Guardians of the Night

Trust in me my friend, I am your comrade.
I will protect you with my last breath
When all others have left you.
The loneliness of the night closes in, I will be at your side.
Together we will conquer all obstacles and search out those who might harm others.
All I ask of you is compassion and the caring touch of your hands.
It is for you that I will unselfishly give my life.
Although our days together may be marked by the passing of seasons,
I know that each day by your side is my reward.
My days are measured by your footsteps.
I anticipate at every opening of the door.
You are the voice of caring when I am ill.
The voice of authority when I am wrong.
Together we shall experience a bond only others like us will understand.
Outsiders will see us with envy.
I will quietly listen and pass no judgement, nor repeat your spoken word.
I will remain silent and ever loyal.
When our time is done, you move on in the world.
Remember me with kindness and that nothing passes among us undetected.
If we meet again on another street, I will gladly take up your fight.
I am a POLICE WORKING DOG.
We are the guardians of the night.

The Journey

In Early January of 2006, I(Larry) imported a young male without training from Germany to train for police work. After several weeks of training Angie and I realized he was something special. At that time, Angie decided to try her hand at schutzhund. Thus began a very interesting journey. With no schutzhund experience she began her training with the help of the members of O. G. Bierstadt, myself and many others along the way.

In 2006 they obtained the SchH 1 and SchH 2 along with V2 in conformation and KKL-1; in 2007 they obtained their SchH 3 and IPO 3. In 2008 she felt they could begin to train at a higher level and they received their first V score in protection. They then worked very hard to reach our Regional Trial; unfortunately, Chico contracted ehrliccea (a very nasty tick borne disease) and had to pull from the trial.

It took some time for him to recover but it made Angie more committed than ever; as several rumors circulated about Chico and his lack of drive at the Regionals and about her handling abilities. She dedicated herself to working harder over the Winter and early Spring to try to receive a qualifying score for this year's National championship and everything culminated today, May 29, 2009 when they received 98 in Tracking; 96 in Obedience; and 98 in Protection for 292 points!

I personally congratulate her on this achievement as this is the highest score obtained at OG Bierstadt in more than 30 years of existence. I would also like to thank Gordy Esselman, Chris and Minna Becher and all of the other people who have assisted and supported this team in the past 3 years. I also would like to especially thank Angie for her dedication and commitment during this time.

The Trial

Qualified for Nationals!!

May 29,2009

Angie and Chico HIGHEST score in O.G. Bierstadt Schutzhund Club's 30 year history!!

Chico got his qualifing score to go to the 2009 nationals in November.
98 in tracking (high)
96 in obedience (high)
98 in protection (high)
High in trial

GRAND TOTAL OF 292 POINTS

It all started with the hopes to qualify
for the nationals, we needed 270 points
so we prayed for that, then everything just
fell in place and the scores were more than we
hoped for. It only took 3 1/2 years but we did it..
